ABOUT A FARM TO KEEP

At A Farm to Keep, we believe that a slower, more intentional life is available to everyone, and that it often begins with the simplest things.

  • A handful of seeds pressed into soil.
  • A pot of broth simmering on the stove.
  • A moment of stillness before the day begins.

Our mission is to inspire and equip our community to live more rooted lives; caring for themselves, their homes, their gardens, and the world around them with creativity, intention, and genuine love for nature. We are guided by a few core beliefs: that sustainability is an act of stewardship, not sacrifice. That self-care and earth care are one and the same. And that the most meaningful life is one lived in rhythm with the seasons.

Pull up a chair, and let us pour you a cup of tea.

A FARM TO KEEP’S MISSION

A Farm to Keep is an independent, reader-supported space dedicated to rooted living — exploring sustainability, self-care, and the slow rhythms of the season through the lens of home and garden.

Founded 2021 by writer and gardener Julia Linsteadt, A Farm to Keep began as something deeply persona space to document a journey back to groundedness after burnout. What started in the kitchen, with nourishing recipes and simple rituals, slowly expanded into the the craft room, self-care practice, and eventually the garden, where Julia continues to find her greatest sense of joy and hope. Along the way, a guiding truth began to take shape: that a meaningful connection to nature doesn’t have to cost much, and it belongs to all of us. Regardless of background, economic status, or culture, we share one fundamental thing, we are human, and we come from the earth.

A Farm to Keep was built on that belief. It is a space for those who want to live more intentionally — who care about using resources wisely, bringing only what truly matters into their homes, and becoming gentle stewards of the land, rivers, skies, and living creatures around them. Here, sustainability isn’t a trend. It’s a way of moving through the world with care, creativity, and purpose.

Meet Julia

Hi, I’m Julia — writer, gardener, and the heart behind A Farm to Keep.

I grew up in Northern California, though my roots run deep on the East Coast, where I spent my childhood roaming creeks and fields, snacking on wild blackberries, and learning to love the land. Gardening has always been in my blood — I come from a long line of growers, including my father and his mother, whose family farmed right here in New Jersey. For seven years, my family and I lived on a small farm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where we grew food, raised animals, and cared for the land firsthand. Returning to the East Coast has felt like a homecoming in the truest sense.

For me, rooted living has always looked like healthy routines that offer my body and mind grounding, nourishment, community, and creativity. I believe that’s true for most of us. Now, back among four distinct seasons and putting down roots where my ancestors once did, I bring both coasts into everything I write and grow: the wild abundance of California and the deep, quiet heritage of the East. My days begin with a cup of jasmine tea and a moment with my rescue pup, a small but sacred ritual that sets the tone for everything that follows.

OUR COMMUNITY

A Farm to Keep is more than a website. We are home gardeners and herbal enthusiasts, slow living seekers and creative souls, women rediscovering the rhythms of the earth and finding joy in tending to the life around them. We believe that connection to nature, no matter how small, is available to all of us, across backgrounds, cultures, and circumstances. Because at the end of the day, we all share the same ground beneath our feet.

We’re so glad you’re here.
