Follow These Simple Steps to Make A Plushie Comfort Cat
Step 1
Download your free Plushie Comfort Cat pattern. Cut out the cat pattern and pin it to your fabric. Option, fold over the fabric and cut the front and back of your cat at the same time, or cut out the front and the back separately. The pattern includes a front and back of the Comfort Cat.
Step 2
Mark the cat’s facial features on the fabric piece that will be the front of the cat with a pen, pencil, or fabric marker.
Step 3
Place the front cat cut out into the embroidery hoop with the facial features visible. Embroider the facial features using the embroidery floss. Once finished, knot the thread on the wrong side of the fabric and snip off the extra lengths with the scissors. See tips and tricks for more details for successful embroidering.
Step 4
Pin the cat’s front fabric piece to the cat’s back fabric piece- right sides together (The pretty side of the embroidery will not be visible)- use lots of pins to prevent slipping. Leave a 2″ gap opening on the bottom of the cat to add stuffing after sewing.
Step 5
Place the fabric into the sewing machine and leave 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Step 6
Once sewing, with the bottom of the cat left unsewn, turn the cat’s right side out. Use the chopstick to push the points of the cat’s ears so they stand up alert.
Step 7
You are ready to begin stuffing! Stuff the cat just enough to fill the shape. Use the chopstick to push the stuffing into the head and ears.
Step 8
Close the opening on the bottom of the cat by first tucking the edges and stitching closed with the cotton sewing thread.
Tips & Tricks For Making a Plushie Comfort Cat
Tips & Tricks
- When choosing fabric, a natural fiber like cotton or linen will work best. Sytheic fabrics may be too slippery for this project.
- Emroidering Tips: Start from the center of the cat’s face and work outward. Use one color for the nose and one color for the eyes and whiskers.
- Pinking shears work best for prepping the fabric for the pattern.
